Area of Focus: Promoting Peace

Between February 23, 2017 and June 3, 2017, the Rotary Club of Coastal St. Johns County will join Rotary District6970 in their efforts of doing good for humanity by strengthening the bonds between senior citizens and our club. Traditionally Coastal Rotary focuses on seniors with service projects. We contribute to brightening their Christmas and Valentines holidays. For the 100 Acts of Good Campaign, the club will issue special holiday cards to 300 residents of Bayview Healthcare, a local assisted living and rehabilitation facility in St. Augustine.

Activities:
The Rotary Club of Coastal St. Johns County will support the creation and deployment of 300 personalized holiday well-wishing cards for St. Patrick’s Day (3.17.2017), Easter (4.16.2017) and Mother’s Day (5.14.2017). The idea expands on the Valentine Challenge underway.

Community Contact, Location, Dates: Davey Hartzel, Director of Communications and Fundraising, Bayview Healthcare, 161 Marine Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084, (904) 806-4708. The campaign will be supported by social media promotions to the club and other participating volunteers. The objective is to get holiday cards to each resident in each facility each holiday. Volunteers are encouraged to visit Miss Olga as the Pavilion Receptionist Desk from 9 am to 5 pm to sign cards (or bring your own) and write something uplifting …”You are loved!” to our patients and residents. This is a great way to show the love to our Bayview Residents several of whom suffer from dementia and Alzheimer’s and other debilitating diseases precluding normal socialization.

Community Need: Serving Humanity through prevention of disease is a critical need. This campaign focuses on disease prevention specifically to stave off depression, dementia and negative effects of isolation while undergoing rehabilitation treatment. Funding for cards, organizational efforts and promotions will be supported by the Rotary Club of Coastal St. Johns County. Visibility for the campaign will be promoted via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. #doitbetter #everyday #makethatdifference

Budget: Up to $2,000 is committed to this year’s allocation for the 100 Acts of Good Campaign, plus whatever the club can leverage with other partners.
